Alejandro Velez Lopez, MD

Alejandro Velez Lopez is the director of the neurogastroenterology and motility program, an assistant professor of pediatrics, and a faculty pediatric gastroenterologist at C.S Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Alejandro was born in the country of Colombia and immigrated to the US as a teenager. He received his Bachelor of Science at the University of Maine, his medical doctorate at the University of Vermont, and completed his pediatric residency at Montefiore Children’s Hospital in the Bronx, New York. Alejandro’s pediatric gastroenterology training was completed at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and he was hired by Michigan Medicine in 2023. He is currently working to establish the first, and only, pediatric neurogastroenterologist and motility program in the state of Michigan. Alejandro’s clinical and research interests include lower gastrointestinal motility disorders, childhood constipation including congenital constipation disorders, bowel management, pelvic floor dysfunction and the cultural, societal and psychological underpinnings of functional constipation.
