Andrea Badillo, MD

Dr. Badillo is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery and serves as the Director of the Colorectal & Pelvic Reconstruction Program at Children’s National Hospital. She is an expert in prenatal diagnosis, anorectal malformations, cloacal malformation, Hirschsprung disease, and conditions leading to fecal incontinence such as spinal conditions and functional constipation. She attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, as an undergraduate and moved north to Washington, D.C., to complete medical school and her residency at George Washington University. Dr. Badillo also spent three years conducting basic science and clinical research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) during her general surgery residency. She completed her pediatric surgery fellowship at CHOP before being recruited to Children’s National in Washington DC. Together with Dr. Marc Levitt, she helped to develop the Colorectal & Pelvic Reconstruction Program at Children’s National Hospital, a fully integrated program with colorectal surgery, urology, gastroenterology, and gynecology expertise dedicated to the care of children and adults with colorectal and reconstructive needs. She has extensive experience in colorectal care including challenging revision surgeries and the most complex malformations. She is well known for her compassionate style of care. In addition to clinical work, she is a primary investigator in the Pediatric Colorectal and Pelvic Learning Consortium (PCPLC), an organization of collaborating Colorectal Centers committed to the study of colorectal care and improving the outcomes children with colorectal conditions. She has numerous peer- reviewed publications, presentations, book chapters, and is an associate editor. She is also committed to mentoring faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
