Casey M. Calkins, MD

Dr. Casey Matthew Calkins, MD serves as Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI. He serves as attending pediatric surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and is board certified in both adult and pediatric surgery by the American Board of surgery. He completed his undergraduate degree in microbiology at the University of California San Diego and matriculated at the Medical College of Wisconsin for his medical degree which he completed in 1996. He trained in general surgery at the University of Colorado and completed a two-year research fellowship. He was a pediatric surgery fellow at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri from 2003 to 2005 and joined the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin immediately thereafter. He was promoted to Professor of Surgery at The Medical College of Wisconsin in 2017.

His clinical interests are myriad and include minimally invasive surgery in children, fetal intervention, and most importantly the care of pediatric patients with colorectal and pelvic disorders. He has been decidedly involved in education and currently serves as the program director for the pediatric surgery fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He served as the program chair for the American Pediatric Surgical Association and currently serves on its Board of Governors as its Secretary. His main research interests are focused on the outcomes of patients with colorectal disorders in childhood. He was one of the cofounders of the multi-institutional pediatric colorectal and pelvic care consortium (PCPLC), and currently serves on its executive board.
