Donald Shaul, MD

Dr. Donald Shaul is a board-certified pediatric surgeon who specializes in colorectal surgery in CHOC’s Colorectal and Urogenital Center. With over 30 years of experience, he has performed hundreds of life-saving surgeries, specializing in correcting the lower intestines of babies born with birth defects such as imperforate anus and Hirschsprung’s disease. Dr. Shaul attended UCLA Medical School, where he fell in love with pediatric surgery. After completing residency at UC Davis, he was trained in both pediatric surgery and pediatric urology during his fellowships at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He was fortunate to have been mentored by both Dr. Alberto Pena and Dr. Hardy Hendren, both pioneers in pediatric colorectal surgery and cloacal malformations.

Dr. Shaul worked at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 20 years before migrating to the Permanente Medical Group in Los Angeles, where he served as the Chief of Pediatric Surgery for 10 years. He recently joined the faculty at UC Irvine and Children’s Hospital Orange County, where he is the co-director of the CHOC Colorectal and Urogenital Center. CHOC has recently joined PCPLC and hope to add their patient’s data, and their group’s partners to the growing PCPLC experience: learning and educating healthcare professionals to take better care of our patients.
