Drew Rideout, MD

Drew Rideout is Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Tampa General Hospital and TGH Children’s Hospital.  He is Associate Professor of Surgery at University of South Florida.  At Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, he is surgical director and co-founder of the intestinal rehabilitation program. He specializes in minimally invasive surgery in newborns, children and adolescents and directs the national Pediatric Surgery Fellows Minimally Invasive Surgery Course.  His passion at work is helping the underserved and addressing unmet needs.  As such, he works extensively with hospitals in Honduras to provide training and surgical care and has helped develop a pediatric colorectal program at Hospital Loma de Luz.  Additionally, he is building a Comprehensive Pediatric Colorectal, Pelvic Reconstruction, and Transition of Care Center in Tampa, Florida.

Drew Rideout grew up in Nigeria, giving rise to his interest in international missions. His wife and three children have also helped with work in Honduras, Niger, and Kenya.  He earned a degree in Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then taught high school in Stony Brook, NY, to begin his career as an educator. He has a Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary, a MD from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, and a PhD in medical sciences with a concentration in molecular pharmacology & physiology from University of South Florida.  He completed his general surgery residency at USF College of Medicine and his pediatric surgery fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. He enjoys learning, teaching, and helping those in need.
