 Sarah Shumate, PA-C, is a physician assistant with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Department of Pediatric Surgery. She specializes in both general pediatric surgery as well as pediatric colorectal surgery. She joined UPMC in July of 2022. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.

She obtained both her Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science and Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies at West Virginia University.

Her primary interests include the care of pediatric patients with colorectal disorders such as anorectal malformations, Hirschsprung’s Disease, neurogenic bowel, fecal incontinence, and functional constipation. She currently presents the Bowel Management Workshop for the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Colorectal Center, which is an educational session designed to provide useful information, support, and resources for colorectal patients and their families.
